That's right, forget AOL long distance service. Buyers Online, with their 4.47¢ per minute interstate rate easily beats AOL and the rest! AOL Long Distance telephone service is not really AOL or America Online at all. It is really Talk.com, a subsidiary of MCI. Watch those hidden charges! MCI charges a $5.95 monthly fee. AT&T charges a $6.95 monthly fee. They also add an excessive 11% or 12% to your bill for the FCC Universal Service Fund.   All bill you with unfair whole minute rounding. MCI charges extra for prime-time calling. Sprint's 1000 minutes do not include in-state calling. Sprint adds other official-sounding charges to your bill that are NOT FCC imposed! And, AOL's instate rates are far higher!

AOL - AMERICA ONLINE The interstate rate is a competitive 5¢ per minute, but you are billed by credit card only! You can only view your bill online, and if you want a hard copy sent by mail, you must pay an extra fee! If you leave AOL, you can have them switch you to TALK.com, the new retail mark of TEL-SAVE (AOL's carrier). Intrastate rates are 30 to 50% higher than the competition (Ca. intrastate rates are good however and the calling card plan seems decent) and International rates are also high, unless you want to pay $3.95 per month extra for lower International rates. They also bill in rounded up whole minutes.

Some Important Differences:

With AOL, AT&T, MCI, and Sprint:

1. The discount program is not available for businesses.
2. Toll-free numbers have much higher rates.
3. International calls have extra monthly fees and higher international rates.
4. Calling card rates are generally much higher (up to 69¢ per minute), plus surcharges  (up to 99¢ per call in addition to any payphone surcharge), plus monthly fees.
5. AT&T, MCI, and Sprint add upwards of 9.9% on out of state calls to your bill for the FCC imposed Universal Service Fee (USF), (some plans add 12% for the USF and confuse you further by referring to this fee by other names.
6. Sprint adds a mysterious "Carrier Property Tax" of 1.08% which doesn't seem to be a valid tax at all!
7. You are charged a monthly fee.
8. They NEVER let you know when rates decrease, only when they INCREASE!

With Buyers Online:
1. Same rate for businesses and residences.
2. Toll-free numbers have the same rates as direct dial.
3. International calls have great rates and NO monthly fee.
4. Buyers Online automatically reduces rates for existing customers whenever there is a rate decrease. 5. Calling card rates are LOWER than the "big three" (BuyersOnline's US rate is 9.9¢ per minute), have NO extra surcharge (other than the FCC imposed payphone surcharge), and have NO monthly fee. .
6. Customers qualify for online purchase rebates as much as 25% on high-quality merchandise and services, as well as generous credits on their phone bills for referring friends and family.
7. The only monthly fee you will ever be charged is a small $2.50 billing charge if your total invoice is under $30.
